Education Projects
Anuradha Foundation believes a strong educational foundation is necessary for success in life. We believe that early childhood intervention programs where every child is provided with the opportunity to learn in a caring environment is crucial to their overall development. Our mission is to support children in underserved areas and grant them opportunities and facilitate their progress to become high achievers.
Akshara Foundation: Increasing access to Early Childhood Education - A pilot project to set up preschools in non-notified slums in Bangalore. This project will cover approximately 150 to 250 children in the age group 3 - 6 years and provide them with access to preschool education in Bangalore City A film about the project in the non-notified slums can be viewed here.
Ashok Kamath graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai and worked for 25 years at Analog Devices Inc, based in Boston. He set up the Indian operations of Analog Devices. In March 2004, he retired as Managing Director of Analog Devices India and has since focused full time on social initiatives. He is currently the Chairman of Akshara Foundation (www.aksharafoundation.org) which is a public-private partnership that aims to have Every Child in School and Learning Well. He is also a Trustee of Pratham Books which is a public charitable trust that publishes low-cost, high-quality books for children in multiple Indian languages (www.prathambooks.org) and at PROOF (Performance Record of Operations and Finance) which has pioneered the concept of standardized service level benchmarks for civic services in urban India. Ashok and his family live in Bangalore.
Suzanne Singh is a management graduate with over 12 years experience in the advertising and marketing fields. She has been associated with Akshara Foundation since 2003. She is a Trustee of the Foundation and is actively involved in strategy planning and communication. She is also the Managing Trustee of Pratham Books which is a public charitable trust that publishes high quality, affordable books for children in multiple Indian languages. She is also a board member of United Way of Bengaluru, a non-profit organization which is committed to raising community levels in education, healthcare and livelihoods in and around Bangalore.
Prasanna Jyothi Educational Trust: A child welfare activity program. Prasanna Jyothi is an orphanage for girls and is located in Puttanhalli in Bangalore. Anuradha Foundation granted scholarships and financed the higher education of five girls from Prasanna Jyothi. The two year project was completed in 2006.
